AUGUST ROUND-UP

What a dollop of drivel….

I should probably apologise as you have all been inundated with fairly mindless posts from me. Hey I have had time off work so I have wanted the world to know what I have been up to. At least I spared you the today I boiled an egg post ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

We went to Wales

I managed quite a bit of knitting. I have hit the half-way mark on the nautical KAL and I started a pink Guernsey this month. Front and back are complete and one of the sleeves is well underway. ๐Ÿค—

And look at my beautiful clematis that was in flower when I got back from Wales

I mowed the lawn yesterday in between tackling loads of holiday washing. So that is my August. Back to working tomorrow so sadly back to random blogging – I would like to think quality as opposed to quantity ๐Ÿ˜‚

For those of you enjoying a bank holiday weekend I hope you are having a fabulous time and to everyone stay safe.

LKKNITALONG – DOOM AND GLOOM!!!

Some frogging was needed ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I have completed half the squares for the nautical blanket – yay! I started on the intarsia square on the last evening of my hols.

It should be a neutral background with a navy anchor. Have to admit I have never really got to grips with this type of colour work. I much prefer to weave in the colours on the reverse as I find myself having to sew up holes when I am sewing in my ends ๐Ÿค”

As can be seen from the above photo I haven’t got that far into the square, it has curled up and I had a real tangle of yarn and guess what I made a mistake and hadn’t noticed for four rows. Normally I would carefully unpick each row until I had worked my way back to the mistake but the yarn was in such a robble that I made the decision that it all had to go ๐Ÿ™„

I now have half a dozen little balls of yarn, all neatly wound up. I have bought the next issue today and the next squares are single colour – one cabled the other a bit lacy. I am going to put off the intarsia for a while ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope that your holiday projects are going better than mine?

Woolly wishes,

Jane โ™กโ™กโ™ก

STASH-BUSTING #37

Home and the sun has come out ๐ŸŒž

But at least the holiday washing will dry quickly ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I completed the front of my jumper while away. Now I am home and able to access my stash I will be able to start on the sleeves.

I am quite pleased with the cabled yoke and look forward to feeling nice and snug while wearing it in the winter. And the knit goes on ๐Ÿ˜‰

HOLIDAY UPDATE

Fresh air and the bins…

Look at this beautiful view I have been greeted with when I wake up each morning

Sadly we are going home tomorrow. Don’t get me wrong we have a lovely view of the river Severn at the bottom of the garden but this has been so restful and fascinating watching the estuary fill and drain. Unfortunately there was a train derailment on the otherside of the estuary the day before yesterday. The locals have been advised not to pick cockles in the estuary as there is a risk of diesel seeping through the river into the estuary ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

It was bin day today, something of an obsession of mine. I have been sorting as per local recycling policy. Household waste, food waste and plastics were taken today. Really impressed that they take food waste and all plastic๐Ÿ˜ Because I didn’t know which waste was being taken today I put it all out, I bet the locals thought “bloody holidaymakers “! I have just brought the bottles, cans and cardboard in to stash away safely in the bin store.

It will be the holiday clean up this evening but in the meantime

LKKNITALONG – MOVING ON

And the next instalment is out today….

A bit of progress to report. I have completed the toggle knot squares and I am now working on a textured waves square.

I am quite enjoying this square. Although it has holes from decreases and making stitches it is not as lacy and fiddly as the previous lacy square. Quite a nice little rhythm to the stitches ๐Ÿ™„

However I am still an issue behind and the new one is out today so better get a move on.

HOLIDAY DRAMA

Storm Francis was blowing…

And we decided we would go out for tea. Sadly the only places to eat were outside so we came home.

Unfortunately we had locked ourselves out but Jane came to the rescue. I climbed onto a wall and then up onto the balcony where, ever security conscious, we had left the door unlocked. I let myself in and then went downstairs and let the men in!

I like to think if I had had my knitting with me I could have quickly knitted up a rope or the like to make it easier๐Ÿ˜‰

We ordered in pizzas for tea ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyway the wind has died down today and the sun is trying to come out. Back to knitting on the balcony๐Ÿ˜Ž

STASH-BUSTING #36

Dreary day, knitting day โ˜”

The weather is not so good today but the view is still fantastic.

The estuary is just starting to drain for the day but very windy and rainy this morning.

I have brought the pink Guernsey with me to work on. I have completed the back which I have left at home. The front is coming along :

I haven’t brought enough yarn with me to complete the whole jumper but will get what I can done.

Woolly wishes,

Jane โ™กโ™กโ™ก

LKKNITALONG – A BIT MORE PROGRESS

A nautical knot …

Just watching the estuary drain, ready to fill up again tonight.

I have brought my KAL with me to try to catch up. I am woefully behind and the next part is out on Thursday ๐Ÿ˜‰

This square is called the toggle knot and I have enjoyed making it, always love a bit of cabling โ˜บ

Filling my free time up productively.

HOLIDAY SNAPS

Somewhere in Wales…

We have come into Wales for a few days break. I had been counting the days since the end of July, not sure if restrictions would be tightened again but here we are. The cottage overlooks an estuary which fills up with water twice a day.

I haven’t been locked up but these are the views from the balcony where I have found a cosy spot to sit and do my knitting. Breathtaking ๐Ÿ˜Ž

So back to the powder pink Guernsey that I am working on.

Woolly wishes,

Jane โ™กโ™กโ™ก

SELF-HELP #35

Mindfulness in motion

July was a fallow month on the knitting front and I had lots of niggles running through my head. Putting the two together I believe if I had been doing more knitting I may have had less niggles???

I have made a concerted effort this month to do some knitting.

I am making a jumper. I have made this before (see my first post “a fresh start“) but it is quite a straight forward pattern, nothing too complicated ๐Ÿ˜‰ And at the end I will have a jumper for work in the winter ๐Ÿ˜„

Focusing on the rhythm of knit a row purl a row and then the routines of the cables is very soothing and I am noticing the difference at night, I am not going over those niggly little problems when I should be sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

However on the down side it is so damn hot at the moment! I am keeping above knitting wrapped up in an old towel (one from the rag bag, destined to be cut up for dusters) and I have to keep wiping the sweat off my hands on it. Knitting really isn’t a summer occupation!

I have also spent time sat by my leggy lavender whose scent is very soothing. I always associated lavender with old ladies. I have this rather neglected plant in the garden to attract bees but I am really appreciating it this year – will treat to some tlc at the end of the season ๐Ÿค”

Anyway back to knit a row, wipe sweat off hands, purl a row…

Woolly wishes,

Jane โ™กโ™กโ™ก
