AWOL

Very little yarn craft ….

I have been absent from these pages for a week or two. Work has been horribly busy and I have hardly had a chance to click my needles together and I have to admit to missing the benefits.

I have made this storeage basket.

It’s a very chunky yarn that I bought from Aldi a couple of years ago and a size 10mm hook. I have actually managed to hook this in the round. I think the thicker yarn and hence bigger stitches helped me with my counting. I made it up as I went along but ended up with 96 stitches.

It’s going to be a toy basket. Tyson the tiger looks quite comfy in it.

Hoping that the next week or two will be less hectic and I can get a bit done on my nephew’s cable aran.

STASH-BUSTING IN 2021 #10

Or tackling the stash a bunny at a time…

No progress to report on the cable knit aran this week. I have started the front but I have had back to back shifts at work so the little progress I had made had to be frogged 🐸 I should learn my lesson and not work on bigger projects when I am tired πŸ€”

I have been tinkering with toy making over the last few weeks

The knitted bunny is for N’s granddaughter for easter.

The crochet bunnies are a work in progress. I have a bag full of bunny bits. I think I have mentioned before I have terrible problems working in the round when attempting crochet. I just keep losing countπŸ™ƒ So the yellow bunny is crocheted backwards and forwards and then lots of seams to sew up. The mauve bunny can be called amigurimi but he doesn’t have 2 identical arms or 2 identical legs. A slight deformity due to my poor numeracy skills πŸ˜‰

A have few more bunnies to complete, ready join the crew.

cosied up storage pots…

pot cover pattern from Let’s Knit 166

I have already displayed 3 of these pots but I didn’t have a big enough jar for the tall one. I went out and bought a large jar of green olives. We have finally eaten them so I can now cover the jar with the twist and cable cosy – what I go through for my craft πŸ˜‚

now i have a pot for my taller needles

I used some leftover ombre yarn from Aldi that I had lurking in my stash. It knitted bigger than the tension requirements of the Aran yarn used in the pattern but I am quite pleased with the results.

WINDING UP FEBRUARY

Ticking off the WIPS list…

My February accomplishments are finally finishing the Kitty coat and the Knotty cowl and getting them sent off to their recipients. I managed to complete the pink Guernsey for myself and have had a good root through what is left in my work basket. Obviously I haven’t tackled the various stashes around the house. N does not need to know about thoseπŸ˜‰

Spring is in the air so I have potted a few flowers to cheer the place up and I have been dabbling in hooking.

Moving forward I have started a cable knit aran for my nephew, I will continue to try to master crochet and I am making little hats for the AgeUk/Innocent Smoothie campaign http://www.thebigknit.co.uk πŸ‘’πŸŽ©πŸŽ“

The weather is improving, well rather chilly today, so must start making more of an effort with my walking.

And so it begins….

Just thought I would offer a sneaky peak at how my nephews cable knit jumper is coming along.

So we have a single rib, some cables over 4 rows, the diamond twist pattern done over 24 rows and the textured stitch which I think is called blackberry stitch or perhaps I’ve made that up because it looks a bit like blackberries πŸ€”

I have worked just over 100g of the Paton’s wool blend and I am liking the finish πŸ™„

The sun is out so hoping for a lovely weekend after a tough week at work. Hope the weather is as kind to everyone else as the sun certainly lifts my mood.

well not really as I have a new addition to the stash…

Look what arrived today, she writes shaking with excitement πŸ˜€

Eleven balls of Patons wool blend aran (63% wool). I am embarking on an aran cable-knit jumper for my nephew. I have gone for a wool mix because of the laundry πŸ˜ƒ

N is pulling his hair out at I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday going through my yarn jumble. So when this arrived this morning he nearly dropped his cuppa…

I also potted up a planter with primulas and tete a tete which I’m hoping will look pretty for Mothering Sunday ⚘⚘⚘

My fingers are tingling as I’m very keen to get my new project on my needles. Progress will be sharedπŸ˜‚

STASH-BUSTING 2021 #5

Or whipping the WIPs into shape…

Do you remember me sharing photos on the progress of the pink Guernsey jersey?

Well I have finally finished it πŸ€—

It’s a Debbie Bliss pattern that I found in Prima magazine a few years ago. I have made it in brown before but I am much happier with this attempt. The yarn came from Aldi so cheap and cheerful. Next time I make it I will have the confidence to splash out on a more expensive yarn.

Hope you are having a good Sunday.

Another project started in 2020 but finished in 2021…

I have finally finished this little kitty coat for N’s granddaughter

The pattern came from Hobbycraft and it is made in their cotton blend DK yarn. It is knitted completely in garter stitch which is why it took so long – I got boredπŸ˜‹

Anyway it’s in the post now, hopefully it fits???
