STASH-BUSTING in 2021 #2

Every day is a school day…

Temptation got the better of me last night. I really needed a change so I thought I would have a go at some storage cosies, see Let’s Knit issue 166. My thought being something small and quick using bits from my stash.

The cabled cosy was the intermediate level cosy and it is covering a jam jar to make a decorative pot to store crochet hooks and small scissors. And I am quite pleased with it, so pleased in fact I thought I would have a go at the beginner’s cosy. Now I have been pulling my hair out with this one!!! It is a mock cable and quite frankly I am struggling! All that dropping and making stitches, what a faff much easier to do the cabling😉

Hoping that your projects are less frustrating.

Woolly wishes,

Jane ♡♡♡

  1. That looks lovely. I know what you mean in that there is a view that cabling is difficult when actually it’s easier than doing the work around. Good luck. I use little pots like that for lots of things, pencils, scissors and needles etc. Always useful.

  2. I find faux cables to be maddening! I thought I was the only one, it’s nice to know I’m not alone!!

But the outcome is adorable!! I think I’m going to make some cabled covers for some of my random catchall pots!

  3. I’m a bit of an ignoramous and don’t know the difference between a mock cable and a real cable. I mean, I know how to cable . . . can’t you just ignore the pattern and do it your way? (although that defeats the object of following a pattern I suppose).

  4. Very cute & clever use of ‘odds & sods’ (Scottish term for bits of extra yarn). (I’m one of those in the ‘cables are difficult’ group – would much rather knit a ‘faux cable’) Yours are great!

  5. I love the look of cables but don’t often knit them! Your cosies are great. I like making (preferably in crochet) little baskets or pots as they are good for holding centre pull yarn cakes steady so they don’t tangle. Have a lovely day. Nicola.

  6. Claire sounds like a knitter after my own heart (except for me it would be crochet). I do a lot of instruction ignoring, especially when I don’t “get” what the pattern is trying to say! 😂
