Claude is a trauma bear 🐻 My offering today as well as half a dozen little hugs bears. The lady only wants the knitted pieces for the hugs’ bears, so just a pile of stockinette with dangling ends. I must make one up myself just so that I can see a final outcome!
A dreary Monday made better by the click clack of needles, friendly chatter, tea and cake 😄
On hearing there was going to be a new arrival a few doors down, I rather rashly bought a subscription book before Christmas. Being me, I didn’t start knitting until the baby was due.
Aran weight yarn
Now I bought the kit from knit in a box, I have bought things from them before but always after the reveal, I bought this before the reveal. I avoid variegated yarn as a rule! Loved the pattern (King Cole) but got into a pickle with the colour changing. Sewing up was a nightmare! I completed the button band side without incident, but the other side, oh my goodness!!! Firstly, I caught myself trying to sew the sleeve in upside down and, then, when I finally put it in the right way up, I had sewn the sleeve in inside out 😱
Sadly I didn’t realise this until it was all sewn up, after lots of frogging 🐸🐸🐸 I put it to one side for a couple of days – I really wanted to throw it away! Anyway, I came back to it and sewed it all up as it should be.
Variegated yarn never again, my eyes just aren’t up to it 🤔
Trotted along to knit and natter today, I’m on a late shift today. Lots of ladies with needles clattering. We have been asked to make some tiny little bears for Hugs, a charity supporting mums who have suffered miscarriage or still birth. So I have taken the pattern and will have a go this week.
You’ll be pleased to know that there was plenty of tea and cake, and much of the chat revolved around the up and coming craft fair where there will be a cake stall 😊
My contribution!
Not such a big haul as last time but only 2 weeks between visits, and I’m knitting a gift for a newborn a few doors down (which is a tale for another day).
A pretty grim and overcast day here, but spring flowers are out, so hopefully, spring is just around the corner 🪻🌷⚘️
My new year’s resolution was to attend knit and natter at the local church as often as work would allow. I attended the first 2 Mondays in January and then what do you know I was rota’d to work every other Monday 😩 but I wasn’t idle I put my needles to good use so that I had something to take in when I finally got there.
We’re off to knit and natter!
I had a lovely couple of hours drinking tea, eating cake and, of course, knitting with the lovely ladies at All Saints Church this morning. I’m finding that focusing on my needles is helping me not to dwell on sadder thoughts. However, there is a limit to how many things you can knit for personal use, so I’ve made trauma bears, little cardies and tiny hats for preemie babies. Counting the rows and stitches focuses the mind and with such small items there is almost instant gratification at having completed something. And then rewarded with tea and cake 😊
A few weeks work!
Apologies for my absence and hoping everyone well.
I’ve always fancied the idea of wearing a beret but have never managed to pull it off😪
I found this yarn
The cat is showing great restraint. Normally, when a ball of yarn is left unattended, he runs off with it!!!
Now this yarn says it’s made from recycled ♻️ bottles so I thought I would see what I could do with it. It seemed quite bulky for dk so I took time on working out my tension and then had a go at making a beret. After lots of knitting and lots of frogging and then more knitting I came up with this:
I should have posted this on Shrove Tuesday as it looks like I have a pancake on my head!
My tension was done in stocking stitch, I probably should have done a swatch in rib as well as it is a bit loose or my head isn’t as big as I thought it was🤣
I have quite enjoyed working on something from scratch and I am gearing up to work on the rib to improve the fit. I’m intrigued to know how all those water and pop bottles were turned into yarn though 🤔 I would hope it would keep your head dry as its all plastic☔️
My last post was in October when I had dug out a few WIPs to finish off. I’m sorry to say my little blog fell by the wayside but I had a lovely email from Pam enquiring after my wellbeing, this community is so kind.
I have cut down on my screen time over the last month or two, for 2 reasons. Firstly I find screens are quite tough on my poor old eyes and secondly there is so much bad or unkind stuff out there😢
The knitting has carried on although I haven’t done a big project for a while. I did a couple of Christmas stalls and sold a few hats and mittens, I always get a buzz when people buy something that I have made❤️
It’s very wet over here in Blighty at the moment, the river is rising and Bewdley has its flood defences up in an attempt to prevent flooding. So expect some pictures of flood water soon🐟🐟🐟
For the last few weeks I have been rummaging in corners and making piles for recycling, charity and to keep. I’m sure the lady at the local hospice donation centre thinks oh no not her again! It’s difficult to judge, after all one man’s rubbish can be another man’s treasure 🤔
I have also dug up a whole host of unfinished projects🤪 Me being me the knitting part is complete but no attempt has been made to start finishing and sewing up😥
I have sewn the following up, all found in a Christmas bag 😇
A hat, a cowl, mittens and Christmas novelties!!!
Quite a sense of achievement but sadly I think I will find more…
We were all set to spend the weekend at Stone Valley festival. Our camper was all loaded up. I had wine and knitting to last the weekend and we set off.
We got half an hour up the road and broke down on a busy roundabout.
Our first rescuer moved us to a safe place. And then after some time it was taken to the garage where she sadly waits.
I am using the unexpected time at home to have a sort through my crafting clutter, I’d forgotten I had half of it 😉
